Allium cernuum

Nodding Onion

Allium cernuum (Nodding Wild Onion) features thin onion-scented leaves and clusters of delicate pink to lavender pendulous flowers beginning in July. It is drought tolerant once established and can be found growing in prairies and savannas in wet to mesic conditions. It can be seen mixing with Liatris spicata and Veronicastrum virginicum as well as drier species like Tradescantia ohiensis and Symphyotrichum sericeum. This plant is a nice addition to the perennial border and has been used as a salad green.
