This plant is a rare find in fens and wet prairies. It has a breathtaking spray of vivid pink flowers in early summer, and the leaves resemble those of a Japanese Maple. Due to its height and occassional bought with mildew, it would thrive in a moist mixed border. It associates with Carex stricta, Lysmachia quadriflora, and Phycanthemum virginianum.
