Allium canadense

Wild Garlic

An adaptable plant for the prairie or savanna in moist to mesic soils, the thin, strappy leaves of Allium canadense (Wild Garlic) emerge early in the spring. The delicate pink to white flowers appearing in May are held above compact bulblets that mature to reddish brown. Popular associates include Silphium terebinthinaceum, Schizachyrium scoparium, and Allium cernuum. A favorite of many bee and wasp species.
