Wild Leek is a woodland perennial with broad eight inch high leaves with red petioles that appear in spring. By the heat of summer, the foliage has withered and the white pom-pom flowers typical of alliums appear in June. These onion-scented flowers are favored by bees. The early foliage and bulbs are enjoyed as a seasonal treat by foragers and are known as ‘ramps’.
