Difficult to establish, Purple Milkweed is distinguished by its dark pink round flower clusters held at the terminal of the leaf stalk. The wide leaves are pointed, wavy margined and lightly hairy on the undersides. It does best in a prairie to savanna situation with wet to mesic soils. A host plant for monarch butterflies, it is also attractive to other pollinators including the occasional hummingbird.
