A warm season grass that is very drought tolerant once established, Side Oats Grama reaches about two feet and prefers prairie situations in mesic to dry soils. The purple tinged flowers and seeds are particularly attractive as they hang to one side of the flower stem. The blue-grey foliage becomes curly in autumn, turning golden brown, orange and red. Larval host for several skippers.
