Blue Grama is a slender bluish green warm season clumping grass that reaches about a foot high. Exceptionally drought tolerant when established, its purple flowers age to tan seedheads that resemble small moustaches. It can also be mowed and used as a turf grass. It does best in prairie to savanna situations with dry-mesic to dry soils and turns a pretty golden brown in autumn. Larval host for several skippers.
