A cool season clumping grass, Prairie Brome features greyish blue foliage and attractive purplish nodding hairy seedheads. Commonly found in prairie to savanna sites that are mesic to dry, it can be short-lived and is not drought tolerant. The seeds are consumed by upland gamebirds, sparrows and small rodents.
