A sprawling perennial for dry or rocky prairie situations, Purple Poppy Mallow blooms all summer with deep magenta cup-like flowers. Its palmate foliage is deeply divided and hairy. This charming flower makes a good groundcover and is the larval host for a couple of butterflies. It may go dormant after blooming. Its roots have been used as emergency food by Native Americans.
