This biannual is natively found in woodlands and savannas. It has produces a distinctive spire of blue flowers in late summer. It attracts a variety of pollinators during its short life and reseeds itself. Best planted in large masses in part shade. It is commonly found with Carex blanda, Phlox divaricata, and Elymus viginicus. Tall Bellflower produces flowers that are, oddly, quite flat and not bell like.
