With broad green leaves, Common Lake Sedge stands out among other finer textured wetland sedges. At around three feet, it is a large upright sedge for any wet to wet-mesic situation and tolerates seasonal flooding. Several skippers, butterflies and moths use this sedge as a larval host, while a large variety of birds consume the seeds. It will form sizable colonies in the right conditions.
