Field Oval Sedge can be found in moist prairies and woodlands. It is clump forming and cool season. The foliage is thin, and the entire plant has a pleasing fountain like form. The seedheads consist of several spikey balls that pop up up in the spring. It can be found with Juncus dudley, Scirpus pendulus, and Slidago altissima.
