Broad-leaved Woolly Sedge is typically found in prairies and savannas that are consistently wet to moist. Reaching about two feet, this sedge spreads through rhizomes and can form colonies in ideal situations. The oval, bristly seedheads have a bract beneath. Many butterflies, moths and skippers use it as larval food and several species of birds consume the seeds.
