This warm season wetland sedge usually occurs in areas with shallow water. It will form colonies and can dominate an eco system. In late summer, it will send up several seed heads, which will start out white and slowly change to a golden brown. Common associates are Carex lacustris, Iris virginica shrevei, and Sagittaria latifolia.
