Pretty Sedge can be found in wet-mesic to mesic woodlands with rich soil. It is clump forming, although it also spreads through rhizomes. It has an upright growth habit and grows during the cool season. It can be found with Allium canadense, Carex gracillima, and Eutrochium purpureum.
