An attractive and tall Wood Reed Grass can be found in wet to mesic woodlands. It creates clumps of arching green foliage. The flower heads have a light blue tinge when they first appear and as the seed mature, take on a rich golden color. This species can be found with Carex grisea, Leersia virginica, and Phlox divaricata.
