Found in commonly in mesic woodlands, Dutchman’s Breeches is a charming spring ephemeral. It has fern like foliage that will start popping up before trees leaf out. Its charming flowers from which its name is derives rise up on peduncles in the early spring. It can commonly be found with Carex jamesii, Claytonia virginica, and Solidago flexicaulis. Due to its ephemeral nature, it is an important source of nectar and pollen for bees in the early spring.
