Spotted Joe-Pye Weed

Attractive in the landscape as well as to a myriad of pollinators, Spotted Joe-Pye Weed is a bold resident of wet to wet-mesic prairies, marshes, sedge meadows, and fens. Whorls of elongated leaves climb colorful purple-stained, upright stems supporting flat-topped clusters of purplish pink flower clusters. It is a host to many species of butterflies & moths and visited by many species of butterflies & bees for its nectar, including two Chicago Wilderness Priority Species, the Monarch Butterfly and the Rusty Patched Bumble Bee. The seeds are eaten by turkeys, waterfowl, and Swamp Sparrows.
