Nothing is more eye catching than a wispy sweeps of pink seed head across the landscape in spring that will make it appear as if the blooms are rising from the ground and blowing away in the wind as it’s common name, Prairie Smoke, suggests. Care has to be placed for its short height due to competition of taller species, yet on the flipside it can survive sandy to gravely soil in dry to mesic conditions tolerating a wider range of habitats.
