Maianthemum racemosum

Solomon's Plume

Solomon’s Plume is commonly found in mesic forests and savannnas. It has an elegant, upright form with wavy leaves that lend themselves to an interesting texture. The spray of white flowers in early may will give way to red seed heads. Often in the fall the leaves will turn a pleasant yellow color. It will form small colonies if left unattended, but is not terribly aggressive on the whole. In woodlands it is found with Carex lacrustris, Clatonia viginica, and Geranium maculatum. Its genus name means may flowers.
