This species is somewhat uncommon and is found in wet and mesic woodlands. It has small, delicate white flowers that cannot help but bring up images of falling snow. The foliage, which is heart shaped and scalloped, is semi-evergreen and extremely aesthetically pleasing. It associates with Anemone uinquefolia, Carex gracillima, and Geranium maculatum.
