A common choice for restorations, this plant is found in bogs and river sloughs, especially in areas that are slightly shaded. It has distinct arrow shaped leaves that have a pinnate veination. Near rivers, it is found with Hibisucs laevis, Sagittaria latifolia, and Schoenoplectus tabernaemontani. In southern poortions of the United States, is is an evergreen, however the cold winters of the north force it to be decidious.
