Reaching about five feet high, Yellow Coneflower, sways elegantly in the breeze. Drooping yellow ray florets surround the domed center of green turning to brown disc florets. It thrives in prairies and savannas in mesic to dry-mesic soils and blooms throughout the summer. Many pollinators visit the flowers, but it is especially favored by bees. Silvery checkerspot butterflies use it as a larval host.
