Ruellia humilis

Wild Petunia

This shortgrowing warm season perennial is commonly found on hills and in gravel prairies. It is sometimes called Hairy Petunia due to the silvery down on the leaves and stems of the plant. It is a good choice for a ground cover in residenitial gardens. The darling purple flowers open in the morning, and by the time that they are pollinated in the afternoon, they fall off. Luckily, this forb creates plenty of them. It is found with Boeteloua certipendula, Dalea purpurea, and Oligoneuron rigidum.
