Sagittaria latifolia

Common Arrowhead

The broad, arrowhead shaped leaves set Common Arrowhead apart from other wetland plants. Found in prairie and savanna situations, the bright green foliage is crowned by a tall flower stalk. The three-lobed flowers are arranged in whorls of three and have both male and female blossoms. This arrowhead feeds a broad range of insects, birds, mammals and turtles. Its golf ball-sized tubers have been consumed by Native Americans.
