Found in sandy backwaters and swamps, Lizard tail enjoys light shade and is a heavy colonizer. It has smooth, heart shaped foliage, and distinctive bottlebrushes of white flowers. There are few wetland species like it. It associates with Leersia oryzoides, Hibiscus palustris, and Carex lacustris. While this plant is not commonly foraged by native wildlife, it seems to provide key cover that many birds and bugs enjoy.
