Silphium integrifolium

Rosinweed

One of the mainstays of the prairie, Rosinweed is named after the sticky rosin once used by Native Americans as chewing gum. Reaching around five feet high, a loose cluster of yellow daisy-like flowers forms on single stems beginning in June. It thrives in prairie situations in almost any soil. Attractive to pollinators, goldfinches will feast on the seeds.
