This orchid is one of the more common species and is found in fens and wet-dry prairies. It creates a handful of grass like basal leaves and will continue to persist as the plant blooms. The flower spikes is densely packed with delicate white blooms that are quite fragrant. It is commonly found with Asclepias incarnata, Eupatorium perfoliatum, and Carex stricta.
