Symphyotrichum oblongifolium

Aromatic Aster

Aromatic Aster gets its common name from the spicy scent of its foliage when crushed. A bushy aster found in prairies, it thrives in dry-mesic to dry soils. Large violet daisy flowers bloom beginning in late summer and well into October. Asters are key pollinator plants that provide a welcome source of late-season nectar. Numerous moths use them as larval hosts.
