Goat’s Rue is found in dry to mesic savannas. It has attractive compound leaves with a slight grey tinge. It has distinct flower, with cream petals on the top of the flower and magenta on the bottom. The spikes of these flowers are followed up by gangly seed pods. It associates with Amorpha canescens, Asclepias verticillata, and Koeleria macrantha. This species is currently being used in cancer research.
