Despite what its common name wood suggest, Prairie Trillium is found in dry woodlands and savannas. It produces a whorl of three leaves which have mottled green and purple foliage. Their red flower has interesting form, somewhat like a bird beak. Common associates include Allium canadense, Geranium maculatum, and Viola sororia.
