One of the most distinct ironweeds, Missouri Ironweed is found in mesic prairies and savannas. It grows upright and the stem is mostly obscured by leaves. The clumps of fuzzy purple flowers emerge in early fall and serve as an excellent source of pollen in the late season. Associates can be found with Calamagrostis canadnsis, Euphorbia corollata, and Monarda fistulosa.
