A sought after species, Indian Paintbrush is a hemiparastic annual plant. It can be found in moist sand prairies. It has a very upright growth pattern. The stems a dark purple color, spiked with long, lobed green leaves. The flower has bright red petals with a strip of green at the base of each petal. They can be found with Dalea purpurea, Heuchera richarsonii, and Koeleria macrantha.
